P. 124
SOLUTION : Weight of rice= 5.400 kg
Weight of sugar = 2.020 kg 5.400 kg
Weight of flour = 10.850 kg 2.820 kg
So, Total weight = 5.400 kg + 2.020 kg + 10.850 kg + 10.850 kg
= 19.070 kg 19.070 kg
Total weight of his purchases is 19.070 kg or 19 kg 70 g.
EXAMPLE 7. Chandni has 30 m 5 cm long cloth. She cut 4 m 50 cm length of cloth from this to make a
suit. How much cloth is left with her?
5
SOLUTION : Total cloth Chandni has = 30 m 5 cm = 30 m + m = 30.05 m
100 30.05 m
50 – 4.50 m
Cloth cut for suit = 4 m 50 cm = 4 m + m = 4.50 m
100 25.55 m
Cloth left with her = 30.05 m - 4.50 m = 25.55 m
Hence, Chandni is left with 25.55 m of cloth.
EXAMPLE 8. John went to the market with ` 500. He ate a pizza cost ing ` 112.80. He pur chased a book
for ` 83.25 and on his way back took a rick shaw for which he paid ` 8. Find the amount left
with him.
SOLUTION : Cost of pizza = ` 112.80 ` 112.80
Cost of book = ` 83.25 ` 83.25
+ ` 8.00
Money paid for rickshaw = ` 8.00
` 204.05 ` 500.00
Total cost = ` 204.05
+ ` 204.05
\ Money left with John = ` 500.00 – ` 204.05
` 295.95
= ` 295.95
Hence, John is left with ` 295.95.
