P. 123
EXAMPLE 1. Add the following:
(a) 80.69 + 25.2 + 38 (b) 620.5 + 14.62 + 4.89
SOLUTION : (a) 25.2 has only one decimal place.
80.69
So, we will add one zero to make it like decimal, i e. ., 25.20.
25.20
38 has no decimal part + 38.00
So, it can be written as 38.00 143.89
620.50
(b) 620.5 has one decimal place 14.62
To make it like decimal, we will add one zero to it. + 4.89
640.01
EXAMPLE 2. Subtract 105.75 from 912.
SOLUTION : To make 912 as like decimal, we will add two zeros to it after the decimal.
912.00
- 105.75
806.25
EXAMPLE 3. Subtract 3.895 from 75.2.
SO LU TION : 75.200
- 3.895
71.305
EXAMPLE 4. Vishal spent ` 35.75 for comic book and ` 32.60 for story book. Find the to tal amount spent
by Vishal.
SOLUTION : Cost of comic book = ` 35.75
Cost of story book = ` 32.60 ` 35.75
So, Total cost = ` 35.75 + ` 32.60 + ` 32.60
= ` 68.35 ` 68.35
Total amount spent by Vishal is ` 68.35.
EXAMPLE 5. Kamal travelled 16.52 km by car, 31.46 km by auto rickshaw and walked 1.45 km. Find the
total distance covered by him.
SOLUTION : Distance travelled by car = 16.520 km
16.520 km
Distance travelled by auto = 31.460 km
31.460 km
Distance walked = 1.450 km
+ 1.450 km
So, Total distance = 16.520 km + 31.460 km + 1.450 km
49.430 km
= 49.430 km
Kamal covered 49.430 km in total.
