EX AM PLE 3. The cost of 10 metres of cloth is ` 300. Find the cost of 7 metres of cloth.
SOLUTION : Proportion method:
metres cost (in `)

10 300
7 x
So, 10 : 7 = 300 : x
10 300
or, =
7 x
10 ´ x = 300 7
´
300 ´7
x = = 210
10

x = ` 210
\ Cost of 7 metres of cloth = ` 210.
