Since,    3 : 12 = 5 : 20
                               Therefore, 3, 12, 5, 20 are in proportion.
                          (b) 10, 20, 30, 40

                               Ratio of 10 to 20 =     = 1 : 2                Ratio of 30 to 40=      = 3  : 4
                                                    20                                            40

                               Since,    10 : 20 ¹ 30 : 40
                               Therefore, 10, 20, 30, 40 are not in proportion.
