Reflection and Symmetry

Linear symmetry and mirror reflection are naturally linked to each other.
A Mirror A
Take small mirror and place a figure of D ABC in front of it as shown in
given figure.
Now, observe the figure carefully and write your observations:

1. Is the D ABC and its image symmet ri cal with refer ence to the mirror
line?
2. Is the mirror line, a line of symmetry?
3. Is there any change in shape or length of any side of D ABC after reflection?
4. Can you find any difference between the figure and its mirror image?

So, we conclude that when an object is reflected:
u There is no change in the measurement.
u There is no change in the angle.
u The image is as far behind the mirror as the object is in front of the mirror.
u The left side of the object appears on the right side in its mirror image and vice versa.
