2. Find the area of a square whose side is:
                                                                              1
                    (a) 13 cm (b) 25 cm (c) 10 m (d) 4 m 50 cm
                                                                             2

               3. Find the area of rect an gles with follow ing dimen sions and see which one has the greater area:
                    (a) 10 m 10 cm long and 3 m 30 cm wide

                    (b) 14 m 25 cm long and 2 m 30 cm wide
                    (c) 8 m 45 cm long and 6 m 25 cm wide

               4. What happens to the area of a square, if its side is doubled?
               5. Find the cost of level ing a ground at the rate of `12 per square metre, if it is 45 m long and 30 m
                    wide.

               6. Find the cost of fenc ing a rect an gu lar field 34 m 20 cm long and 16 m 30 cm wide at `40 per
metre. What will be the cost of turfing at `21 per square metre?

               7. A room is 17 m long and 10 m wide. A square carpet of side 12 m is to be laid on its floor. Find the
area of the floor which will remain bare.
               8. A stick, assumed to be 1 m long, measured the side of a square field. The area thus calcu lated was
625 square metre. Later on, it was discov ered that the actual length of the stick is 90 cm. Find the
actual area of the square field.

               9. A paper sheet is 300 cm long and 150 cm wide. Enve lopes from small sheets measur ing 10 cm and
3 cm have to be made. Find the total number of enve lopes that can be made from the big sheet.

              10. A rect an gle and a square are equal in area. The side of the square is 24 m. If the length of the rect -
angle is 36 m, find the breadth of the rectangle. Comment on their perim eters.
              11. A draw ing room is 5 m 40 cm long and 4 m 10 cm wide. How much carpet is required to cover the
drawing room? What will be the cost of the carpet, if 1 sq. m of carpet costs `325?

              12. The measure of length and breadth of a field are 60 m and 40 m respec tively. Find the cost of
ploughing the field at the rate of ` 25 per sq. m.

              13. The area of a rectangle is 900 sq m and its length is 50 m. Find its width and perimeter.
              14. A room is 10 m long and 8 m wide. Find the cost of carpet ing the room at the rate of `135 per sq.
                    metre.

              15. Calculate the area of each one of the shaded regions split into rectangles:
                    (a) 6 cm (b) 3 cm 3 cm
