l The length of the boundary of a closed figure in known as perimeter.

l Perimeter of any closed figure = sum of the lengths of all sides.
               l Perimeter of a rectangle = 2 (length + breadth)
               l Perimeter of a square = 4 × length of side

l Perimeter of a regular polygon having n sides = n × length of side.
l The amount of surface covered by a closed figure is called its area.

               l Area of a rectangle = Length × Breadth
               l Area of a square = side × side = (side)²

               Multiple Choice Questions

            Tick (3) the correct answer:
                                                                          2
               1. The cost of plough ing a field at the rate of ` 4 per m is ` 1024. If the breadth of the field is 8 m,

                    (a) 12 m (b) 16 m (c) 32 m (d) 64 m
               2. If the length of a rectangle is doubled and its breadth is halved then its area:
                    (a) remains same (b) becomes half
                    (c) doubles (d) becomes one-fourth
